Bio

An American living in Norway, performer, composer Trina Coleman has had melodies purring in her subconscious for soothing and survival since childhood. Classically trained yet soulfully inclined, Trina felt released from shifting form to fulfill others’ requests when she began creating and sharing her own songs. A voice with a quality of skill and expression described by Lene Marlin as “really rare and special,” Trina has honed her own musical identity through shouting her lived truth into the void between the inherited stylistic and cultural worlds where she finds herself. From pristine a cappella to soaring string arrangements and gritty band grooves, her soul-bearing songwriting has connected her with American and European audiences with memorable authenticity. Trina is committed to the belief that music – particularly singing with one’s own voice – is a human right; an essential balm in a harsh world, and she invites each audience she encounters to create sound alongside her in that healing space.

Previous performances include Oslo Operaen, Victoria Nasjonal Jazzscene, Vocalist with Tabanka Dance Ensemble, Performances with Nordic Black Theatre, Weary Blues Tour, USA Artscape Festival, and opening for Grammy Winner Cory Henry at The 8×10. Trina received a “four chair turn” on The Voice Norway 2019 for her rendition of Ain’t No Sunshine and was recently awarded her masters in vocal jazz/improvised music performance at The Norwegian Academy of Music, NMH.
